Oleg Klimov

was born in Tomsk (Siberia) in 1964. He studied at Kazan University, and majored in astrophysics starting to work as a photojournalist in 1989. From 1991 he was a freelance photographer for international newspapers and magazines, for instance NRC-Handelsblad, The Washington Post, Time Magazine, Der Spiegel, Le Monde, The Independent, The Guardian and the agencies: AFP, Sigma, Panos pictures etc.

His solo shows took place in Amsterdam (1996, 2002, 2004), Moscow (2000), Brussels (2004) and Nizhny Novgorod (2002). His exhibition 'To Russia with love' on violation of human rights in Russia was organized in Amsterdam by Amnesty international (2002) and “Black and White Russia» (about racism in Russia, 2006)

A retrospective on the conflicts in the former USSR called 'It's Just A War' and organized by the Open Society Institute was shown in Moscow, Kazan, Ulyanovsk, Petrozavodsk among other Russian cities. He took part in exhibitions and festivals in Berlin, New York, Naarden.

In 1992 in collaboration with Hubert Smeets, a Dutch journalist, he published a book on Russia ('Gekrenkte zielen. Vrijheid in Rusland'/ 'Offended Souls. Liberties in Russia'). In 1999, in collaboration with Maurice Boyer, a Dutch photographer, he published a book on the Kosovo events - 'Between Belgrade and Skopje. Photographs of the Kosovo War'.

In 2004 his book on the follow-up of the Soviet Union collapse, 'Heritage of An Empire: My Doomed Homeland', was published in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
